The body of a 36-year-old woman who was buried in April 2025 in Mabini, Bohol was found outside of her tomb.
Her body was found at the Lungsodaan Public Cemetery afternoon on January 20, 2026.
According to Police Senior Master Sergeant Emmanuel Habas, investigator at the Mabini Police Station, a couple, Carlo and Maria Grace Vallente, observed that a tomb was destroyed. They were in the cemetery at that time to visit the tomb of a loved one.
Police said that the couple reported the concern at the barangay first.
Investigation rendered that the woman was buried nine months ago, but the body is still intact.
Aside from the woman’s tomb, there are signs of an attempt to destroy an adjacent tomb.
However, the police said that contrary to earlier reports, no mischievous act was done upon the body, based on the findings of the municipal health officer who examined the cadaver.
The body was buried again immediately.
One of possible motives in the destruction of tombs is treasure hunting, police said, because of apparent attempts to open a few niches.
As of this writing, investigation on the case continues.
