A low-pressure area (LPA) located east of Mindanao and a shear line are bringing scattered rains over several parts of the country on Sunday, according to the PAGASA.
In its 4 a.m. forecast, PAGASA said the LPA—formerly Tropical Depression Ada—was estimated at 765 kilometers east of General Santos City, South Cotabato. While it is no longer classified as a tropical cyclone, its interaction with the shear line is affecting eastern Mindanao.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected over Caraga, Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon due to the shear line.
PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides in these areas, particularly during periods of moderate to, at times, heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) is affecting the rest of the country. Cloudy skies with light rains are forecast over Cagayan Valley, the Bicol Region, the rest of the Visayas, the rest of Northern Mindanao, and the provinces of Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and Quezon, with no significant impact expected.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also due to the northeast monsoon.
The unusually cold weather being felt across parts of the Philippines, particularly in northern Luzon, is being driven by the intensified northeast monsoon, or Amihan, state weather forecasters said.
Cold air from mainland East Asia continues to flow southward into the country, bringing significantly lower temperatures, especially during the night and early morning. The effect has been most pronounced in elevated and northern areas, where minimum temperatures have dipped well below seasonal averages.
The lowest temperature recorded in recent days was in Baguio City at 10.8°C, while several lowland and coastal areas also experienced cooler-than-usual conditions: San Ildefonso, Bulacan registered 17.0°C, Basco, Batanes and Tanay, Rizal both logged 17.2°C, and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte recorded 17.5°C.
Other areas that saw notable drops in temperature included Abucay, Bataan (18.1°C), Malaybalay City, Bukidnon (18.3°C), Casiguran, Aurora (19.0°C), Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (19.1°C), and Clark International Airport in Mabalacat, Pampanga (19.2°C).
Temperatures at the PAGASA Science Garden in Quezon City in the past 24 hours ranged from a low of 20.0°C to a high of 28.8°C.
Sunrise over Metro Manila on Sunday is at 6:25 a.m., while sunset is expected at 5:52 p.m.
