The owner of a dog, that was beaten to death in Mandaue City, filed a case against the dried fish vendor who was pinpointed as the culprit on Monday, January 26, 2026.
The dog owner and the vendor met in another hearing at the Canduman Barangay Hall days after their first meeting on January 21, 2026.
Canduman Barangay Chairman Dante Borbajo called for another meeting as the vendor apologized once again for beating Cooper, a Labrador retriever.
The dog reportedly broke loose, ran out of the house, and went astray at a market in Canduman. He was beaten by the vendor with a piece of coco lumber to death.
Despite the apologies, the dog owner is bent on filing a case against him, in pursuit of justice for Cooper.
It was learned that the pet owner filed a case for violation of the Animal Welfare Act on January 26, taking with her the affidavits of witnesses.
"Desidido man gyud ang complainant nga mo-file og case, bisan sa pagpangayo og pasaylo sa nakasala. Mo-file na ang complainant nangayo sila'g minutes sa among pag-mediation, so mao to ilang i-attach sa ilang case,” Borbajo said.
