At least nine students and three crew members were rescued after the motorbanca they were riding was damaged while navigating the waters off Glan, Sarangani over the weekend.
Authorities launched a search and rescue operation after receiving information about the distressed motorbanca on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

Based on investigation, the MBCA Gween came from Lower Malok, Barangay Labangal, General Santos City.
The students on board were reportedly conducting field work in Sarangani Bay for their college thesis on marine biology.
However, the watercraft experienced engine trouble and its outriggers were damaged due to big waves.
The passengers rescued underwent medical assessment and are now in stable condition. They have since been sent home.
