Three fire incidents in Bacolod City struck over 40 houses.
A fire broke out in Barangay 26 dawn on Monday, January 26, 2026.
Investigation rendered that illegal tapping may have caused the fire.
At least 13 houses were destroyed.
It was learned that the house where the fire started has not been inhabited for a long time.
“Ang nagta-tap ng kanilang wiring nasa harapan ng kanilang bahay. Yung sa kanila, nakasaksak lang at hindi nagta-tap sa main (connection). Almost five years na wala nang tao diyan,” said Councilman Sunny Barrientos, one of fire victims.
Another fire broke out in Barangay Singcang Airport. At the height of the celebration of the Ati-atihan Festival in Sitio Magsungay on January 25, an afternoon fire broke out in Purok Batad.
Three houses were damaged.
The fire started reportedly at the house owned by a certain Sanz family due to a ceiling fan that overheated.
Further, a fire broke out in Barangay 10 afternoon on January 24, and displaced over 100 individuals.
The fire started reportedly at the house of one Aron Tupas.
Twenty-two of 27 houses were destroyed.
“Hindi pa natin ma-identify kung ano ang specific cause ng open flame. Walang kuryente ang bahay na pinagmulan ng sunog kaya more likely due to lighted candle,” said Fire Insp. Jemarie Tapiru, deputy fire marshal of the Bacolod City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Tupas said the children were seen playing and that a spark was spotted under his house.
“Ayon sa kasamahan ko sa bahay, merong naglalaro na mga bata at may nag-spark sa ilalim ng bahay,” Tupas said.
The fire displaced over 130 individuals.
“Kahit damit, ni isa wala. Nagpapasalamat na lang sa Maykapal na nakaligtas kami,” said Ronald Abellar, another fire victim.
The three areas affected are classified as fire-prone areas, or on the red zone, Bacolod City BFP pointed out.
