Two laborers died while one was injured in an accident at a construction site in Mandaue City.
Bags of cement fell on the victims.
Authorities responded immediately at the building project site along A.S. Fortuna Street, Mandaue City morning on January 24, 2026.
According to police investigation, at least eight sacks of cement were lifted supposedly to the 19th floor of the building on board a crane. However, the cable snapped.
“Mosaka na, kining tulo (3) ka trabahante naa pod sila sa ubos, sa ground gihapon sila so while gisaka didto ang semento sa taas, nay part adto nga nabugto, nay part sa…bale kable nabugto so mao to natagak ang semento,” Police Lt. Col. Mercy Villaro-Kantuna, information officer of the Mandaue City Police Office, said.
Two of the construction workers died on the spot. One is aged 39 years old, while the other victim is 54 years old.
A third victim, 24 years old, was rushed to the hospital.
GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak tried to check the site of the accident but was prohibited by security personnel.
The news team is also awaiting a statement from the management of the building project, as of this writing.
“Mao sab na, between the tagtungod and also sa atoang kapolisan ug sa construction wala pa’y nahisgutan karon nga resulta unsa ilang giistoryahan, sa part sa construction miatubang ra sab sila,” Kantuna added.
