A Malaysian national and a former Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman were arrested with suspected illegal drugs worth nearly P71 million in a sting operation at a hotel in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi on Monday, January 26, 2026.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM) identified the suspects as alias “Chomen,” a Malaysian national, and alias “Jerry,” a former SK chairman.
Seized during the operation were plastic bags containing dried marijuana kush weighing around 26 kilos and dried marijuana stalks and leaves with fruiting tops weighing more than 33 kilos.
The total estimated value of confiscated illegal drugs is P70.8 million.
The suspects are now detained and will face charges for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165).
“PDEA BARMM reiterated its commitment to intensifying anti-illegal drug operations in coordination with partner law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of communities in the Bangsamoro region,” PDEA-BARMM said.
