Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon visited Mananga River in Talisay City, Cebu again.
Mananga is one of rivers in Cebu that overflowed at the onslaught of Typhoon Tino in November 2025.
After over two months, Dizon returned in Talisay City to check the Mananga River, on a certain portion (not the entire river stretch in the city) on January 27, 2026.
He visited the area for the required short-term solution to pad a disaster similar to the November 4, 2025 onslaught of Typhoon Tino that devastated shanties and houses by the riverside, and displaced thousands.
Dizon said that the marching order of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. includes efficient flood management in Cebu as among priorities in 2026.
One of the short-term solutions is the dredging and widening of the river months away to the rainy season.
Dredging and widening works have started at the mouth of the river in Barangays Dumlog and Biasong, said DPWH 7 Director Simon Arias, officer in charge.
The works will extend at portions of the river in Barangay Lawaan II, San Isidro, to Barangay Tabunok, Lawaan 3 and upwards.
Orange pole markers with barbed wires were erected to indicate a "No-Build Zone," 15 meters from the easement on both sides.
One of other concerns that the Local Government Unit of Talisay City focuses on is the relocation site for the affected individuals.
Mayor Gerald Anthony (Samsam) Gullas will seek the assistance of the Cebu Provincial Government for the location.
Over two months after the heavy flooding, displaced individuals remain at the Tent City and evacuation centers.
Dizon is also set to visit the Butuanon River in Mandaue City but with tributaries in upland Cebu City.
He will meet the mayors of areas where rivers overflowed at the onslaught of Typhoon Tino.
