Authorities arrested two men for allegedly selling firearms illegally during a buy-bust operation in Davao de Oro.
According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the suspects identified as alias “Rico” and alias “Rudy” were arrested for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591).
CIDG operatives also seized four loose firearms – a caliber 5.56 Hydra-Matic M16A1 rifle and three units of caliber 45 pistol – and assorted magazines and ammunition.
The vehicle allegedly used by the suspects was also confiscated.
CIDG said the suspects were caught in the act of allegedly trading and delivering the guns worth around P280,000 without permits or authority to own, possess, or trade the items.
Authorities added that the suspect were allegedly involved in gunrunning activities in Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao del Norte.
“This accomplishment underscores the Unit’s commitment in preventing crimes by removing from circulation the very instruments of killing and violence.The CIDG assures the public that it is resolute in accounting and confiscating all unlicensed firearms, and unyielding to all gunrunners and gun-for-hire criminals across the country,” CIDG said.
