A man was shot inside the Iloilo International Airport for wielding allegedly a knife.

Roland Lañohan, 54 years old, a resident of Sagay, Camiguin, who works as a security guard in Iloilo City, was shot at the airport afternoon on January 28, 2026.

Personnel of the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) found a knife in Lañohan’s bag while conducting routine security screening. But while a manual inspection was undertaken, the suspect grabbed reportedly his bag and ran away, taking with him the knife.

Airport police responded to the situation immediately.

As he continued to resist giving up his knife, a policeman shot him to pad further harm to other passengers and employees of the airport.

The suspect was wounded on the chest. Lañohan was rushed to the Western Visayas Sanitarium in Santa Barbara but was later transferred to a hospital in Iloilo City.

Police investigation rendered that he has no derogatory record in Camiguin. This was confirmed by Police Corporal Jomar Batican, assistant operations in-charge of Sagay Municipal Police Station. His family in Camiguin, and others residing in Cebu, has already learned of the incident.

Investigation by the OTS, airport authorities, and policemen are ongoing, as of posting time.

The Cabatuan Police have not issued a statement on the incident, citing that the Iloilo Police Provincial Office director will release a complete report.
