Police are investigating the killing of a 50-year-old man who was allegedly beaten to death in Barangay Anolid, Mangaldan, Pangasinan.
The victim, identified as Ricky Cariño, suffered large head wounds and swelling, according to his family. Relatives said he left home at around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, but did not tell anyone where he was going. By around 6 a.m., he was found dead in front of a store.
Sherilyn Cariño, a relative of the victim, condemned the attack and appealed for accountability.
“Masakit ang ginawa nila, parang hayop nilang pinatay, gusto namin hustisya,” she said.
Family members said they do not know the motive behind the killing and insisted the victim had no known enemies. They also suspect more than one person may have been involved.
“Grabe ‘yung bukol niya sa ulo, hindi ‘yun kaya ng isa lang, at saka kung isa lang makakalaban din naman siguro siya,” Sherilyn Cariño added.
Mangaldan police are coordinating with barangay officials to review CCTV footage and retrace the victim’s last known movements. Barangay officials said the victim was reportedly seen attending a wake hours before he was found dead.
Marissa Honsayco, chairperson of Barangay Anolid, said the lack of eyewitnesses has slowed the investigation.
“Walang tatayo kasi na witness kaya ang PNP nakiusap na sa amin na makipagtulungan sa paghahanap ng mga possible na may alam sa kaso,” Honsayco said.
