Consumers started February 2026 with higher cooking gas prices, as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) retailers raised prices nationwide.
LPG prices went up by P1.50 per kilo on February 2, translating to an increase of nearly P20 for an 11-kilogram tank, according to retailers in Mangaldan, Pangasinan.
At an LPG retail outlet in Barangay Banaoang, Mangaldan, Rhea Gotoc, the owner, said customers were already feeling the impact of the steady price increases since December.
“Dahil dire-diretso na yung pagtaas from December, medyo bumibigat na sa bulsa ng customer. Wala tayong magagawa, ‘yan yung binigay na presyo ng planta natin,” Gotoc said.
Owners of small eateries, or karinderya, also raised concerns, saying they consume around 12 LPG tanks a month, making them vulnerable to repeated price hikes.
Marivic Bautista, a cook, expressed hope that prices would ease in the coming months.
“Sana po bumaba na kasi pataas ng pataas pati bilihin ng karne. Umaasa na kaya sana sa susunod, wala nang pagtaas,” Bautista said.
Meanwhile, oil companies announced another round of fuel price hikes effective February 3, marking several consecutive weeks of increases.
Diesel prices will rise by P1.60 per liter, gasoline by P0.80 per liter, and kerosene by P1.10 per liter, based on announcements from oil firms.
This will be the fourth straight week of price hikes for gasoline, while diesel and kerosene prices will increase for the fifth consecutive week, further adding to transportation and production costs nationwide.
