Police in Bulacan said one of three suspects has identified a married couple as being behind the killing of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her eight-year-old son, as authorities moved to file criminal charges in the case.
The suspect, who police said came forward out of guilt, told investigators that the couple carried out the killings inside their home in Quezon City evening on January 16, 2026.
“Sila po talaga. Wala na pong iba na may gawa,” the suspect said.
According to the suspect’s account, the couple asked him to come to their house at around 8 p.m., where he stayed in the garage. He said he saw an agent and the victim enter the house. After several hours, loud music played inside, followed by what he described as an unusual sound.
“Iba po ang tunog, tunog po talaga ng baril,” he said.
The suspect said he opened the door later and saw that a woman inside the house had been shot.
“Doon ko na po nakita na ‘yun na nga po, binaril na nga po ‘yung hindi ko kilalang babae na nasa loob po, naka-ganun po,” he added.
He said he was threatened when he asked what happened.
“‘Wag kang magsalita kung hindi ikaw ang isusunod ko,” the suspect recalled.
Police said all three suspects are now under the custody of the Quezon City Police District and are set to face complaints. Authorities have also taken in the victim’s husband, Police Senior Master Sergeant John Mollenido, who was earlier tagged as a person of interest.
Asked why he was being implicated, John Mollenido declined to comment.
“No comment na muna ma’am,” he said.
In a statement posted on the Facebook page of the Rimando Law Office, Mollenido’s legal counsel said he was not arrested but voluntarily surrendered. The lawyer said no arrest warrant has been issued against him.
“Wala pa talagang warrant na nilalabas laban sa kaniya. So, any information na lumalabas na he is under arrest, under detention, that is false and misleading. Meron pong inquest, nagcocomplaint po yung kamag-anak ng namatay, si John ay walang participation sa pagkamatay ng kapatid nila,” Robertsun James Suarez, a lawyer, said.
Relatives of the slain policewoman said they do not believe her former husband was involved in the crime.
Police said they also went to a house in Sta. Maria, Bulacan to look for another suspect but failed to locate the person.
