A policeman who had gone missing was found dead in Malolos City, Bulacan, a week after he was last seen alive, police said.
Authorities identified the victim as Police Staff Sergeant Renato Casa-way Jr. Police said he was last seen on January 24, 2026.
On Saturday, January 31, police found his body buried in a shallow grave at a vacant lot in Barangay Mohon. His motorcycle helmet and top box were found near the site.
Police said the suspect may have killed the victim after taking offense at a joke. The suspect fled after the shooting and remains at large.
Two people the suspect spoke to after the killing are now under police custody. Investigators said the suspect allegedly confessed to them. One of the two is also a police officer.
Police are now searching for the suspect and eight other people who are also believed to be involved in the crime.
