Eight persons were injured, while two motorcycles were damaged after a multicab crashed into persons gathered on the road in Minglanilla, Cebu.
The multicab was driven by the barangay chairman of Poblacion Ward 2, Minglanilla.
The vehicular accident happened at an interior road in Barangay Cadulawan, Minglanilla while residents were on the road, celebrating a communal feast.
The incident happened past 11 p.m. on February 1, 2026. The incident was caught on video.
According to Police Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, chief of Minglanilla Police Station, the barangay chairman was from the house of a sibling celebrating the fiesta. He was on his way home. But while negotiating a downhill, the brakes of the multicab reportedly malfunctioned.
The multicab rammed into residents gathered on the road.
Persons injured were rushed to the hospital, while the barangay chairman was detained.
GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak tried to get a statement from the barangay chairman, but he refused, citing advice from his legal counsel.
He, however, vowed to shoulder the victims' medical expenses and payment for damages.
Macatangay added that the barangay chairman admitted to having an intake of liquor that night prior to the incident.
A case for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple physical injuries and damage to properties will be filed against the barangay chairman.
