A tricycle driver and one of his passengers were shot dead in Barangay City Heights, General Santos City on Monday, February 2, 2026.

Police said the 32-year-old driver was transporting his four passengers when motorcycle-riding assailants shot them upon reaching Aparente Street.

Investigators said the suspects took advantage of a stop at a traffic light, pulling close to the tricycle and firing two shots.

The first bullet struck the driver while the second hit 24-year-old female passenger, a registered nurse from Sultan Kudarat who was caught in the incident.

“Naa man tay traffic light didto sir, no… pag-stop nila didto, nagka-opportunity, pag-swerve nila sa left tapos gidikitan nila ang tricycle tapos nagpabuto na og kaduha… ang unang naigo is kato’ng driver… and ikaduhang buto, naigo pud tung passenger,” Police Station 4 Commander, Major Ivan Charles Abastillas, said.

The two were rushed to a hospital but were declared dead on arrival.

The incident has left the driver’s family devastated, particular his wife, a public school teacher.

The driver’s wife said her husband’s friends told her that someone was looking for him prior to the shooting.

“Iyang mga friend naga-ingon nga naay nagapangita sa iyaha (sa Gensan), napangutana kung asa ang balay ning akung bana. Tapos ako pud sir, naka-experience pud ko  sa balay kay ako lang man isa didto (sa Lebak, Sultan Kudarat), inig gabii naay tao sa gawas ba tapos unya naga gakud-gakud ko para to tell sa ila nga naay tao diri,” the driver’s wife said.

Investigators are looking into personal grudge as possible motive.

“We found out na nga kaning driver  is na-serve na sa iyaha ang warrant of arrest na rape sa Lebak, Sultan Kudarat and, mao to, naay possible nga motive, basi’g personal grudge and, upon checking also sa iyahang community sa Mabuhay, naa pud nakaingon didto nga wala pud ni siyay kaaway,” Abastillas said.

Authorities have identified persons of interest in the case.
