A 20-year-old man in Cagayan de Oro City was arrested after he allegedly killed his one-month-old daughter.

Police said the suspect had borrowed the baby from the child’s mother in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, supposedly to introduce the baby to his parents.

However, the mother was alarmed after losing contact with the suspect, prompting her to seek police assistance.

Police said the baby was already dead when authorities arrived at the suspect’s boarding house in Barangay Cugman.

Based on investigation, the suspect, a nursing student, allegedly placed the baby inside a bag, causing her to suffocate and die.

Police said the suspect was arrested and gave inconsistent statements during interrogation. He claimed initially that the baby fell but also said later that he laid on the baby accidentally.

Later, the suspect admitted having killed the baby after he allegedly lost control.

Investigators said the suspect allegedly feared that his parents would find out about the pregnancy and the child, which he believed could affect his schooling.

The suspect may face parricide charges.
