Over 6,000 individuals were affected by a flood that hit Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

Based on data from the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Sagay City is most affected by a recent flooding that damaged at least 34 houses.

At least 27 houses were destroyed, the data indicated.

Clearing and flushing operations of roads were carried out. In other parts of the city, the flooding toppled trees and drowned animals.

Water supply in a few barangays was cut off, which called for water rationing.

“Ang putik coming from the baha ang concern ng mga nabahaan na barangay. Mga hanging bridge natin, kailangang i-repair,” Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva said.

Himoga-an River overflowed and inundated houses nearby.

“Ang analysis namin, nag-accumulate dalawang araw ang ulan, bumaba and here comes 1.7 meters na high tide, may baha. This is the highest since 1964,” Cueva added.

Bryll Larry Sañor, spokesperson of Negros Occidental PDRRMO, said that the area is deemed a catch basin.

“Ang kanilang area, parang catch basin. At nasa low-lying area kaya doon naka-focus ang tubig,” Sañor said.

Flooding in several areas in the province affected over 8,000 individuals, or over 2,000 families.

Relief operations in Toboso and Escalante City are ongoing, as of this writing.
