A Blue Alert status is hoisted over Cebu City in preparation for Tropical Depression Basyang.
The goal of the alert status is zero casualty while the city weathers the storm.
The Blue Alert status is hoisted, beginning Wednesday, February 4, 2026, to ensure public safety.
Heavy equipment are in place at different areas in Cebu City to make response quick and efficient.
Mayor Nestor Archival ordered the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the barangay captains, and barangay responders to ensure the safety of residents.
City Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of the Committee on Disaster Response, said that the early hoisting of the alert status seeks to avoid a similar incident during the onslaught of Typhoon Tino that claimed multiple lives and devastated properties and infrastructures.
Residents are also reminded to be vigilant and to be aware of safety measures in order to help pad untoward incidents.
In Cebu City DRRMO’s meeting with weather specialists, it was emphasized that Tropical Depression Basyang would dump huge amount of rain.
