At least nine employees of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bayawan City in Negros Oriental perished after a mini dump truck they boarded on fell off a cliff.

The incident took place in Barangay Kalamtukan, Bayawan City morning on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

The nine LGU employees were pronounced dead on arrival at the Kalumboyan Primary Community Hospital, including the driver of the dump truck.

Based on police investigation, the dump truck was carrying five drums of crude oil. While the truck was negotiating a downhill, the driver lost control of the vehicle and plunged off a cliff.

The impact crushed the truck because of the considerable height from where it fell off.

GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak tried to get a statement from LGU Bayawan City and is awaiting reply.

However, in a  post, the LGU has expressed deepest sympathy to its employees and student on-the-job (OJT) who died in the incident.

“Almighty, we come before You with heavy hearts as our city mourns the sudden loss of nine precious lives. Our hallways are quiet, and our hearts are broken for our colleagues from the City Agriculture Office – Engineering Division and the bright OJT student who was alongside them. We thank You for their spirit of service and their dedication to nourishing our land and our community. We ask that You welcome them into Your eternal peace, rewarding their earthly labors with the rest they have rightfully earned,” the LGU said in its IbayawBayawan Facebook account.
