The local government of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur has implemented preemptive evacuation in five island barangays on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, due to the possible effects of Tropical Depression #BasyangPH.

According to the Emergency Operations Center, around 500 to 700 families are expected to be evacuated evening on Wednesday.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) also said several barangays are considered flood-prone, and they are looking into whether to implement additional preemptive evacuations in coastal areas.

The local government is urging residents to stay prepared, follow official advisories, and not to resist evacuation orders when they are issued.

Surigao del Sur is among the areas in Mindanao placed under Signal No. 1 due to #Basyang.

In its advisory issued at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said the center of #BasyangPH was estimated at 655 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The state weather bureau added that #BasyangPH is expected to make its initial landfall over eastern Mindanao between Thursday evening and Friday morning, February 6, 2026.
