A forest fire broke out on Mt. Posdo in Mankayan, Benguet, forcing volunteers to battle flames that flared up twice before authorities declared the area safe.

The fire first started near Camantokob in Barangay Guinaoang on February 3 but volunteers put it out quickly, officials said.

However, the fire flared up again around 11 a.m. on February 4 in Sitio Manpaey-as, Barangay Bulalacao. By around 3 p.m., the flames spread to parts of Barangay Guinaoang.

Authorities declared a fire out at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 5.

Officials said no houses or other structures were affected, and no residential areas were damaged.

The total area burned and the cause of the fire remain unclear. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
