Hotel bookings in Baguio City has climbed to near full capacity as colder weather and the ucoming Panagbenga Festival continued to draw tourists to the country’s summer capital, tourism officials said.

Families from provinces nearby began traveling early to Baguio to experience the cold weather, which welcomed visitors with a minimum temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, according to local monitoring.

“Sobrang lamig talagang na-enjoy namin,” Rayne Anion, a tourist, said.

The Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc. (BFFFI) said tourist arrivals are expected to rise further in the coming weeks as Panagbenga Festival activities roll out across the city.

BFFFI spokesperson Andrew Pinero said hotel occupancy has already reached 80 to 90 percent for February, while many transient houses are also nearing full capacity.

“Mataas ang ating occupancy. We can speak on hotels, pero as far as transient, marami na rin, especially yung mga naghahanap ng budget-friendly,” Pinero said.

Tourism officials urged visitors to plan their trips ahead to avoid accommodation problems during peak festival days.

“Dapat they plan ahead of time kasi mauubos lang oras nila sa paghahanap ng hotel kesa sa pamamasyal nila,” Pinero said.

The Panagbenga Festival’s major events include the Grand Street Dance Parade scheduled on February 28 and the Grand Float Parade set for March 1, which are expected to draw large crowds to the City of Pines.
