A couple and their two children were killed in a landslide in Sambulawan, Barangay Agusan, Cagayan de Oro City, while Tropical Storm #BasyangPH lashed the city evening on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

The fatalities were identified as a couple, 45 and 37 years old, and their 12-year-old and 11-month-old children.

Based on investigation, the landslide occurred during downpour and hit the family while they were resting inside their home.

“Atong gipa-imbestigahan sa barangay kay kagabie medyo ulan-ulan paman then kay sa pila katuig nga milabay wala man gyud ingon ana nga insidente so muna atong (gihatag) sa Brgy kung unsa pa ang ilang deeper nga investigation,” City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD) Chief, Nick Jabagat, said.

CDRRMD personnel launched a rescue operation immediately as they were on standby at the barangay hall.

The victims’ bodies were retrieved after mud and debris from the landslide struck the family’s home.

Aside from the family who died in the landslide, all other residents affected by the bad weather across the city were rescued safely and are taking shelter at the evacuation centers.
