At least 1,200 families were forced to leave their homes and move to safer ground after Tropical Storm #BasyangPH caused massive flooding in Iligan City evening on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
According to the Iligan City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the families affected, composed of up to 4,697 individuals, are taking shelter temporarily at the evacuation centers.
The flooding persisted until dawn on Friday, February 6, 2026, with floodwaters reaching nearly head level in some areas.
Raging floodwaters caused the steel bridge in Purok 1-B, Puga-an to collapse.
Some vehicles were also carried away by floodwaters in Barangay Mahayahay.
The Tubod Bridge was closed temporarily after floodwaters overflowed following non-stop rains.
On Friday, personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and other agencies continue conducting rescue operations.
“So currently we are still, we’re asking help from other government agencies… ang Coast Guard, even the army, they are here. We are still continuing our rescue operations sa atoang mga katawhan,” Councilor Derick Siao said.
The DPWH Iligan City District Engineering Office also deployed maintenance crew and heavy equipment to areas affected by the massive flooding in the city, including the Tubod Bridge and the Mahayahay Highway.
Road clearing and declogging of drainage canals were carried out to reduce flooding, prevent accidents, and restore safe passage.
Authorities are still assessing the extent of damage caused by the flooding, as of this writing.
Meanwhile, around 463 families or 2,298 individuals were also evacuated in Cagayan de Oro City after #Basyang lashed the city.
In Barangay Bugo, rescue teams used a refrigerator as a makeshift float to save four children after floodwaters reached above knee.
Rescue operations were also conducted in Barangay Cugman where floodwaters reached waist-deep.
Some families have returned to their homes on Friday.
Relief operations continue while the local government is assessing the extent of the damage.
