The Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has remained on Red Alert in view of Tropical Depression Basyang (international name: Penha).

All personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), along with municipal rescue teams, are on standby in case situation escalates.

“Naka-preposition na ang ating rescue vehicles, ambulances, and equipment dyan sa vicinity ng Iloilo Provincial Capitol in case na mag-escalate ang sitwasyon,” said Dr. Alfonso Baldonado III, chief of Administration and Training of Iloilo PDRRMO.

At least 326 rolling cargoes were reported stranded in Iloilo on Friday, February 6, 2026, while a total of 31 local government units in the province suspended classes in all levels in anticipation of the effects of Tropical Depression (TD) Basyang.

Marites Gaban, a resident of Barangay Poblacion East in Oton, Iloilo, said she experienced their roof being lifted by high winds when Typhoon Tino barreled through areas in Western Visayas in November 2025.

To hold down roof sheets, his family used a rope and made sure bamboo posts are sturdy.

Emergency kits are also made available in case situation worsens at the onslaught of TD Basyang.

“Nang nalaman naming may bagyo, siniguro namin na matalian upang kung lumakas ang hangin, hindi na kami maperwisyo,” Gaban said.

The entire Western Visayas and Negros Island Region is placed under Signal Number 1.

According to PAGASA Iloilo, the tropical cyclone may pass over Panay Island, Guimaras, and Negros Island Region evening on Friday, February 6, 2026, to dawn of Saturday, February 7.

While “Basyang” has already been downgraded to a tropical depression, PAGASA has advised the public, especially those living in the vicinity of flood-prone, landslide-prone, and coastal areas to be vigilant always and to be prepared at all times.

“Maging alerto tayo at maging aware if ang ating area is flood-prone or hazard- prone areas or kung malapit sa mga hazard-prone areas,” said Engr. Ferdinand Rubin Jr., PAGASA Iloilo weather specialist.

TD Basyang is still expected to bring flooding and strong winds, especially in southern Iloilo and the Province of Antique.

“Ang critical time period natin is around sa gabi kung saan dadaan dito sa atin ang sentro ng bagyo at ang dala nitong ulan at hangin is maramdaman natin later,” Rubin added.

A remnant low pressure area is expected of TD Basyang by evening on February 7.
