Over 300 families have been evacuated in Negros Occidental, as Tropical Depression Basyang is expected to pass over the province evening on Friday, February 6, 2026.
In Valladolid town, the Galarso family is among residents set to evacuate.
The Galarso family lives in the coastal area of Barangay Poblacion.
Most of the time their things get damaged in the event of a storm surge.
“Napaghandaan na namin ang pagliligpit ng mga gamit. Magpapa-rescue lang kami kung kinakailangan. Kung may bagyo, expected kasi nasa tabing dagat kami,” Erwin Galarso, a resident, said.
Relatives of another resident, Jason Malapitan, have gathered food and water in preparation for an evacuation procedure.
“Ang last na bagyo, pumasok ang tubig sa aming bahay. Nag-evacuate kami, iniwanan namin ang bahay. Kung makikita naming tumataas ang tubig, iniaakyat namin (ang mga gamit),” Malapitan said.
Valladolid is one of 16 towns monitored by the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) for possible intense rains because of Tropical Depression Basyang.
“Nag-deploy na tayo ng dalawang teams ng water search and rescue team. When it comes to rain volume, nasa Red Warning tayo. Flooding talaga ang [Signal] Number 1, especially sa ating low-lying areas,” Bryll Larry Sañor, deputy chief of Negros Occidental PDRRMO.
In Hinigaran, the Local Government Unit (LGU) has implemented a preemptive evacuation.
Further, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) assisted in the evacuation implemented in San Carlos City.
Meanwhile, PHIVOLCS has alerted residents in the vicinity of waterways on possible lahar and muddy stream flow that may affect Bago City, La Carlota City, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, and San Carlos City.
