Torrential rains from Tropical Storm #BasyangPH have flooded several schools in Agusan del Norte.
One of the schools affected is Remedios T. Romualdez Central Elementary School in Barangay Poblacion, Remedios T. Romualdez, Agusan del Norte.
Despite classes and work suspended on Friday, February 6, 2026, the school principal visited the campus to assess the situation.
The school official said floodwaters may take one to two days to subside fully. Classes are expected to resume on Monday, February 9.
“Ang bubungad sa kanila ay ang dirty surroundings ang mga parents at guro maglilinis na naman,” principal, Cherry Lou Resureccion, said.
Knee-deep floodwaters also entered several classrooms in Panaytayon Elementary School.
Some residents reported that even light rainfall could flood the area.
Floodwaters also reached the local cemetery while several rice fields whose yields have yet to be harvested were damaged by the storm.
According to the municipal administrator, all eight barangays in the town were affected.
The local government cited clogged drainage systems as a major problem, including the drainage managed by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), causing floodwaters to flow directly to residential areas.
The overflow of the Agay River during heavy rains also worsened the situation.
“Ongoing na po ang bidding namin to recover the drainage. Kinakausap namin ang NIA para ma-resolve ang isyu sa drainage,” Municipal Administrator, Bernadette Daquipil, said.
Meanwhile, barangay officials in Bayugan Tres, Rosario, Agusan del Sur have evacuated residents preemptively before the storm made landfall in Bayabas, Surigao del Sur.
Residents living near creeks were moved to safer ground.
At least 54 individuals were evacuated, including children and senior citizens.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Trento, Agusan del Sur has heightened its preparedness measures, prepositioning equipment in case flooding occurs.
“From east to north affected kasi ang davao de oro sa part ng south affected ang butuan city so nasa gitna tayo so anytime pwede tayo magkaroon ng flooded area,” Trentro MDRRMO Head, Johnny Jamaquila, said.
