In a remote La Union village, a family’s desperate journey to save a sick father turned into a dangerous trek down a steep, rocky mountain path, because no road reaches their home.

The 57-year-old man fell ill in Purok 1, Barangay Cadumianan, where even ambulances cannot go. With time against them, his children wrapped him in white cloth and carried him on foot, navigating treacherous terrain just to reach the nearest road.

From their home, the children walked 15 minutes downhill, then crossed another 20-minute stretch of uneven fields before a vehicle could finally take the father to the hospital.

Residents say this struggle is all too common, especially in the rainy season.

They are also appealing to authorities to build proper roads, not only to save lives but also to make travel safer for students and residents alike.
