A few areas in southern Cebu were flooded and eroded, as an aftermath of Tropical Cyclone "Basyang" (international name: Penha).
The weather disturbance on February 6, 2026 damaged houses and crops.
“Lord, hinay na intawon. Hala ang akong ref madala man kaha ni," said Sarry Ambrad in a video while the weather disturbance passed over Barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete.
A river overflowed which affected crops in Dalaguete, deemed the ”vegetable basket of Cebu.”
Ambrad said she is sad over damaged crops, that include cabbages, chayotes (a type of gourd), and spring onions.
"Kusog gyud. Kani ang among uma namura na gyud og dagat, naa man ko’y tindahan sa atbang. Nitan-aw ko, wa na goodbye na ni akong mga tanom ani. Mura’g dako-dako jud siya og damage,” Ambrad said.
According to residents, they observed that the amount of rainfall dumped that day is not normal. They hope they would recover swiftly from the aftermath of the tropical depression.
Romulo Jabagat, a resident, was repairing a bamboo bridge leading to his house.
The bridge collapsed but was not swept away by raging water as he had it tied.
“Sobras taas ng tubig. Diri sa bridge mga 2:30 p.m. mao pa pag-level sa tubig, quarter to 3 p.m. naa nas among salog. Mibakwit na mi sa taas,” Jabagat said.
Meanwhile, in Sitio Can-uga, Barangay El Pardo, Boljoon, raging water from the mountain flooded houses.
Sitio Tubigan, according to residents, was also flooded, which was last inundated in 2021 when Super Typhoon Odette battered Cebu.
At least 20 houses in the said area were inundated.
“Ang among mga gamit unta i-save ba, washing machine unya kay nibuto naman ri. Pagbira sa baha naka-stuck didto puno na, kusog na kaayo ang flow,” Ma. Glenna Vallespin, a resident said.
“Mokusog ang ulan unya way laing kagawsan kani ra man dinhi unya gamay atong imburnal mao nang tungod sa kakusog sa ulan moawas gyud siya,” said Barangay El Pardo Chairman Rainier Romaguera of Boljoon.
A landslide occurred also in front of the Boljoon National High School.
After the weather disturbance, cleanups were conducted immediately such as in Alcoy.
Meanwhile, sea voyages resumed as soon as the weather condition improved, to the delight of stranded passengers.
"For the safety of all the passengers and of course the safety of the sakyanan na ikarga ra ba, basin makabayad unya mi sa kompanya,” said JR Malunes, a stranded passenger, said.
Assessment is ongoing, as of posting time, for damages left behind by #BasyangPH that weakened further into a remnant low pressure area by February 7.
