An overloaded 10-wheel truck lost control and crashed into concrete walls along Marcos Highway in Tuba, Benguet before dawn on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

CCTV footage taken around 5 a.m. on February 8 showed the truck reversing an uphill section of Marcos Highway before hitting a concrete wall and tipping to the right. The vehicle continued to roll backward for about 40 meters before striking another wall and coming to a stop.

Police said the truck failed to climb the steep road and attempted to reverse to gain momentum but the driver lost control.

“Paakyat (siya ng) kalsada, ito po ay nabitin, hindi na po nakaakyat sanhi upang umatras ito para makakuha ng momentum. Kaso pagkaatras, nawalan po ng kontrol ’yung drayber ng sasakyan,” Police Captain Jun Tad-o, chief operations officer of the Tuba Police Station, said.

The driver sustained minor injuries, while his helper was not hurt, police said.

Photos released by authorities showed the truck loaded with sacks of fertilizer, which police said may have caused the vehicle to exceed its weight limit.

According to police, overloading was the likely cause of the crash.

“Pag ating tinatanong naman ’yung mga drivers kung bakit alam naman nila na delikado ’yung biyahe pag overload ang sasakyan, ang sagot nila, sayang daw ’yung trip nila,” Tad-o said.

Data from the Tuba police showed seven vehicular traffic accidents were recorded from January 1 to February 9 this year, including three along Marcos Highway, three on Kennon Road and one on Asin Road.

Police urged motorists, especially truck drivers, to follow weight limits and regularly check their vehicles, warning that steep roads in Benguet increase the risk of serious accidents.
