Authorities have arrested 17 people and seized alleged smuggled cigarettes worth more than P22.7 million in separate operations in the Davao Region over the weekend.
According to the Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11), various police units carried out up to 13 anti-smuggling operations targeting the illegal distribution and possession of smuggled cigarettes.
Seized during the operations were a total of 455 master cases, 1,424 reams, and 276 packs of assorted cigarette brands worth more than P22.7 million
“Cigarette smuggling not only deprives the government of much-needed funds for public programs, but it also fuels illegal trade that can endanger communities. Our anti-smuggling operations will continue relentlessly. We are committed to apprehending those involved and stopping the illegal flow of these products in the region,” PRO-11 Director, Bridagier General Leon Victor Rosete, said.
PRO-11 urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any information regarding smuggling and other illegal activities in the region.
