#BasyangPH left damage in several areas of Agusan del Norte, causing inconvenience for residents affected.

Floodwaters that inundated Barangay Mahayahay in Kitcharao town have subsided, however, residents continue to struggle with thick mud left behind by the flooding, which has affected homes and belongings.

Some residents said they could not help but feel distressed as their belongings were destroyed or buried in floodwaters.

“Di namo malikayan nga magtulo among luha maghuna-huna ingon ani among sitwasyon masayang among gamit malubog sa baha,” a resident affected, Janeth Feliminiano, said.

Residents blamed the absence of a dike along nearby rivers, saying that that strong water currents flow directly into their houses during heavy rains.

They are appealing to the government to prioritize the construction of flood control structures along the rivers.

“Ang akong panawagan nga ilang kuan ang suba dike kan ang duha ka suba para ang mga tao dinhi di na malisang panahon nga naay bagyo,” another resident affected, Nenita Mendola, added.

Floodwaters also carried soil, large rocks, and uprooted trees that blocked the old path of a creek and created a new waterway leading to the Mamkas River.

Meanwhile, a landslide that occurred on a portion of the road leading to Sitio Zapanta Valley in Barangay Balangayan also caused inconvenience as only motorcycles can pass through the area.
