Incessant rain inundated areas in the Province of Aklan on the first weekend of February 2026.

A few roads were rendered impassable for a time, such as in Barangay Dangcalan, Malinao town.

Based on data from Aklan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), flooding hit areas in the Municipalities of Makato, Malinao, and Nabas.

Floodwater damaged an approach of a bridge in Barangay Lilo-an in Malinao. The bridge connects Barangays Lilo-an and San Ramon.

A portion of a road in Barangay Libang, Makato was also damaged.

“This trigger, merong flash flooding at meron tayong na-monitor na maliliit na landslides. Ang part ng approach na tinamaan ng malakas na water current and resulted to parang nag-sinkhole siya,” said Manuel Jayfree Jizmundo, head of Aklan PDRRMO.

Flooding also hit streets in Iloilo City, such as in Barangay Tabucan, Mandurriao District because of the intense rainfall evening on February 8.

According to motorists, floodwater was deep.

“Perwisyo lalo na kung mababa ang sasakyan mo. Lalo na kung makasalubong ang high tide,” Julius Delfin, a resident, said.

Meanwhile, a loud thud startled a guard of a bakery in R. Mapa Street, Mandurriao.

A toppled huge acacia blocked the road.

“Parang tumunog lang. At natumba na siya, hanggang nag-crack pati ang tiles namin,” Bebe, a witness, said.

It was believed that the tree fell because of saturated ground.

Residents said that the acacia is about a century old.

An electric post also fell, along with the tree.

A taxicab parked across the street was also hit by its branches.

The driver of the taxi is safe.

“Sa loob. Kaya ako tinamaan ng kahoy. Itong kamay ko, isinangga ko,” Ed the taxi driver said.

The incident triggered a traffic jam.

Clearing operation took about five hours.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA, the shear line dumped heavy rainfall.

The inclement weather may last until Friday, February 13, PAGASA added.

“Hindi natin sinasabing buong araw. Maaaring maulan pero some parts of the day and even sa gabi ang dala ng shear line,” said Ferdinand Rubin, PAGASA Iloilo weather forecaster.
