The Province of Cebu achieved zero casualty when Tropical Cyclone Basyang passed over southern towns, based on the assessment of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Zero casualty was achieved because of stringent disaster preparedness measures and the active participation and cooperation of communities, according to Retired Colonel Dennis Francis Pastor, head of the PDRRMO.
Cebu City, which is not on the path of the tropical cyclone, was drenched in widespread rains but was spared from severe flooding.
This time, the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) sent close to 30 personnel in Iligan City to help in the clearing and relief operations.
Iligan City in Lanao del Norte is badly hit by #BasyangPH. Several areas were inundated by massive flooding.
Aside from personnel and relief goods, the Cebu City Government sent equipment to fast-track clearing operations.
City Councilor Dave Tumulak said that Iligan City needs all the help it could get, being one of the worst-hit areas in northern Mindanao.
