Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered a dredging operation along the Iligan River and an immediate construction of a temporary bridge in Barangay Abuno, Iligan City after #BasyangPH damaged several infrastructures in the city.

Dizon was in the city on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to inspect and assess the condition of public infrastructures, particularly the Tubod Bridge and communities nearby affected heavily by the storm.

DPWH said the inspection was made upon the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to evaluate the structural integrity of bridges and flood control projects in the area to implement flood mitigation measures and repair damaged structures.

DPWH personnel were ordered to begin dredging operations along the Iligan River to deepen the water channel and improve flow, and continue clearing operations on roads and bridges across the city.

“We will dredge from downstream from the mouth of the river sa dagat all the way going up but apart from that there is a existing drainage masterplan for iligan city and we will start to implement that already in 2027,” Dizon said.

Dizon also inspected the Panul-iran Bridge in Barangay Abuno, which was washed away by strong river currents at the height of #BasyangPH.

The bridge served as a main bypass route connecting Iligan City to Marawi City.

DPWH said while travel via the Iligan-Marawi City Road typically takes about one and a half hours, motorists and residents could reach their destination in only about 20 minutes through the Panul-iran Bridge.

The bridge was built in 2006 and has a two-lane structure measuring 39.6 meters in length and 9.9 meters in width.

Dizon ordered the immediate construction of a temporary bridge in the area, which is expected to be completed within 60 days.

“Hopefully in the next 2-3 months eh matayo na natin yung ano (tulay) so hopefully before the next rainy season hindi lang nakatayo ang bagong bridge nasara na rin natin yung sirang flood control,” Dizon said.

Meanwhile, Dizon also inspected the ongoing construction of the Pala-o Bridge.

DPWH said the bridge, which is currently 30 percent complete, began in April 2025 following the removal of a one-lane Bailey Bridge to replace it with a concrete structure.

The project’s cost is P45.8 million and is targeted for completion by August 2026. It includes a 40-meter slope protection component on the left side of the upstream section.

DPWH added that the construction experienced delays for several months due to the presence of electrical and utility posts, including wiring that obstructed the project site.

DAMAGED DIKE

The top official of DPWH also inspected the damaged flood control structure in Barangay Mandulog.

During inspection, officials observed extensive damage to two sections of the dike, particularly the portion facing the river.

Authorities said the flood control structure was damaged by powerful flood surges that carried debris and large rocks.

The structure, which was completed in November 2025, had a total cost of P98 million.

Dizon said repair works will have to start immediately since the project is still under warranty.

“Since kasama pa ito sa warranty gagawin nila ito sisimulan nila ngayon tatapusin nila ang pag-aayos until before the rainy season sa June-July yun ang commitment nila (contractor) kay DE and si DE nakatutok yan,” Dizon said.

“Let’s help each other rather than normal ano na narereklamo yung mga tao syempre anlaking pinsala rin yung nangyari but again what’s important is we help ourselves, we help the community,” Mayor Frederick Siao added.
