Residents in Pangasinan may feel a gradual rise in temperature starting in the second week of February leading to March 2026.
The state weather bureau said the increase in temperature is linked to the changing weather systems, including the easterly wind flow, which brings warmer air, especially around midday. The agency is also set to begin recording the heat index on the first day of March.
The heat index refers to the temperature the human body feels, based on a combination of actual air temperature and humidity.
“Medyo nagbabago yung ating temperatura sa ngayon, lalong lalo pumapasok na rin yung easterly windflow kaya nagbibigay ng masangsang na init pagsapit ng tanghali,” Engr. Jose Estrada Jr., chief meteorological officer of the PAGASA-Dagupan Station, said.
March is part of the dry season, but PAGASA said warmer conditions may already be felt from this week and the third week of February, particularly in lowland areas.
“Within this week, aasahan na medyo malaki ang pagbabago ng ating temperatura. Dulot po ito ng nagkakaroon tayo ng high pressure diyan sa Eastern Pacific,” Estrada said.
In Calasiao, Pangasinan, some residents said they are not yet ready for hotter weather and hope cooler conditions would last longer.
“Malamig, hanggang gabi,” Pedro dela Cruz, a resident, said.
“Ganito na lang, mas okay malamig, di nabibilad,” Joseph Perez, a tricycle driver, added.
PAGASA said the effects of the northeast monsoon, or amihan, may still be felt in the coming weeks, helping moderate temperatures at times.
The province previously recorded temperatures ranging from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius, but recent readings now fluctuate between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius, according to the weather bureau.
