A 41-year-old person with disability died after he was hit by a motorcycle and later run over by a speeding car in Sta. Barbara town, Pangasinan.

As of this writing, authorities search for the car driver who fled the scene of the incident.

The victim, Robert Galvan, was crossing a road in Barangay Ventinilla when a motorcycle struck him, causing both the rider and the pedestrian to fall onto the pavement, police said.

Moments later, a car ran over the victim.

“Nang bumulagta si victim, tamang-tama naman na may mabilis na sasakyan. Mga ilang segundo, na-run over o nagulungan itong bumulagta na pedestrian,” said Sta. Barbara police chief, Lt. Col. Michael Datuin.

Police said the driver of the car did not stop to help the victim and sped away, instead. Witnesses tried to chase the vehicle, but it escaped quickly, authorities said.

The victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Robert’s father, Jimmy Galvan, said the loss is devastating for the family.

“Maski sinong ama, pag nakita nila yung anak nila na ganun, maiiyak ka. Masakit talaga. Grabe, pinipigilan ko sarili ko,” he said.

Police said the motorcycle rider reached out to the victim’s family and agreed to shoulder the burial expenses.

“They come to an agreement na i-settle na lang nila. Pero nonetheless, ongoing yung investigation natin at yun nga, isa sa mga goal natin is to identify yung driver ng pulang kotse,” Datuin said.

Based on CCTV backtracking, police traced the car’s route through Barangay Ventinilla and Barangay Tuliao in Sta. Barbara, and Barangay Bued in Calasiao town.

Authorities said they are preparing to file charges against the driver of the car, once identified.
