A soldier was shot to death inside Camp General Macario Peralta, Jr. in Jamindan, Capiz.
Private First-Class Wencel Jay Puntuan from Libungan, Cotabato was shot dead by his own colleague evening of February 9, 2026.
The suspect was identified as Private First-Class Rosarjoe Manajero from Lambunao, Iloilo.
According to the police, the two were in a drinking session prior to the crime.
The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital for the fatal wound he sustained on the head from a 5.56 mm caliber pistol.
The suspect was apprehended immediately by colleagues.
Both were assigned at the Operation Control Unit of the 3rd Infantry Division (ID) of the Philippine Army.
"We do not tolerate this such actions. Makikipagtulungan (kami) sa PNP sa investigation para mabigyan ng hustisya ang ating tropa na namatay at ma-held accountable kung anuman ang ginawa ng tropa laban sa kanyang kasamang soldado,” Captain Jessie Jun Ebalan, spokesperson of the 3rd ID of the Philippine Army.
In addition, the Philippine Army will launch a probe into the drinking session inside the military camp which is strictly prohibited.
Aside from a criminal case, the suspect will face administrative charges and possible dismissal from the service.
