Four died after a van-for-hire crashed into the rear portion of a 10-wheeler truck in Basey, Samar.

The incident happened on the national highway in Sitio Sagpuron, Barangay Balud in Basey morning on February 10, 2026.

According to investigation done by the Basey Municipal Police, the van-for-hire was from Borongan City in Eastern Samar bound for Tacloban City.

However, the van crashed into the rear portion of the 10-wheeler truck parked at the roadside.

The front portion of the van was reportedly in total wreck due to the impact.

Among fatalities are the driver and three female passengers. Six other passengers suffered from contusions.

Rescuers took the victims to the Basey District Hospital.

As of this writing, investigation on the incident is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the management of Duptours Shuttle Services, Inc. based in Tacloban City has vowed to shoulder the expenses of the injured passengers and hand over P400,000 each to the families of the fatalities.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 8 has issued an order preventing all units of the said shuttle service to ply their routes within 30 days.

Further, LTFRB ordered that all drivers of the shuttle service undergo compulsory drug testing.
