A king cobra known locally as “banakon” was captured and killed later by residents after it was spotted near a poultry farm in Barangay Sallab, Magpet, Cotabato.
Residents searched for the snake after it reportedly hid inside a roadside drainage.
When they located the snake, they threw objects and used a piece of wood to force it out. The cobra was later retrieved but had already died after being hacked several times.
The snake was buried in the area.
According to a resident who uploaded a video, the cobra had reportedly been living for some time in an area with a poultry farm.
It was believed to have come out due to the heat and in search of a cooler place and appeared eventually near residential houses and the poultry facility.
“Delikado man gud. Okay lang unta kung forest ning amoa diri kay di ba ginabawal man na sa DENR di ba? Kuhaon kanang king cobra pero diri sa amoa, daghan man gud mga balay, delikado basig maka-damage siya og mga tao kay lala,” the uploader, John Henmer Pasco, said.
GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-SOCCSKSARGEN for a statement, as of this writing.
However, DENR-12 earlier reminded the public to report sightings of wild animals to authorities so they can be properly captured and safely returned to their natural habitat.
