Dagupan City authorities will close a major road temporarily morning on Saturday, February 14, 2026, to manage traffic during the arrival of the remains of former House Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr.
The Caranglaan–Mayombo Road, a key thoroughfare for vehicles coming from Calasiao and towns nearby into Dagupan, will be closed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., according to a traffic advisory issued by the local government. The closure will give way to the motorcade bringing De Venecia’s remains into the city.
Some public transport drivers said they were have adjusted their schedules.
Jeepney driver Albert Cuison who operates the Dagupan–Calasiao route said he is aware of the temporary closure.
“Pahinga muna. Kung medyo maraming pasahero, iikot lang. Pero kung wala, pahinga muna,” Cuison said.
The Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) said traffic enforcers will be deployed in full force along the roads affected. Authorities said other roads may also be closed briefly, depending on the movement of the motorcade.
“Caranglaan–Mayombo, MH del Pilar, AB Fernandez Avenue going to plaza. And after 2–3 hours, idadaan ang labi niya sa Burgos, Tapuac, Lucao, de Venecia going to Bonuan, sa Simbahang Bato,” Dagupan City POSO chief Arvin Decano said.
The remains of De Venecia will be brought to the City Plaza for a ceremony before being taken to the St. John the Evangelist Church, also known as Simbahang Bato, in Barangay Bonuan Gueset, where he will lie in state from Saturday until Sunday.
Church workers said preparations are underway as they expect a steady stream of mourners.
“Bale 150 po,” Danny Buena, caretaker of Simbahang Bato, said when asked about the church’s seating capacity.
Authorities said De Venecia’s remains will be taken to the Batasang Pambansa on Monday for a memorial and necrological service. His burial is scheduled for Wednesday, February 18.
