Holy Rosary Parish in Pampanga has officially been granted the title of minor basilica, becoming the first church in the province and the 30th in the Philippines to receive the honor.

The decree was formally received by parish priests on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Apostolic Nunciature. Church leaders said the application was first submitted in July 2025 following requests from priests and parishioners.

Jeffrey Caballa Buan, parish pastoral coordinator, said.

Church officials expect the designation to attract more devotees.

They also highlighted the parish’s historical significance. Recognized as an Important Cultural Property by the National Museum of the Philippines, the site served as a watchtower and hospital during the American period and as a tank garage during the Japanese occupation.

On June 12, 1899, the parish hosted the first Philippine Independence anniversary, with a mass and speech by Emilio Aguinaldo.
