The Department of Trade and Industry-Davao (DTI) has confirmed an increase in the prices of several basic commodities starting January 2026.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, DTI-11 Trade Industry Development Analyst, Jennifer Gumada-Hadloc, said coffee, canned meats, condiments, such as soy sauce and vinegar, and bottled water are among the products whose prices went up.

The increase in prices was reportedly due to higher cost of raw materials.

Hadloc said the production cost of coffee beans has surged by as much as 90 percent due to supply shortages from Brazil and Vietnam, while the cost of meat used in canned products went up by around 39 percent.

Aside from raw materials, other factors that reportedly contributed to the price hikes included increases in packaging materials, logistics, and acquisition costs.

According to the DTI website, the latest data on suggested retail prices for basic commodities dates back to February 2025. The list serves as a guide for consumers on the prices of essential items such as sardines, milk, soap, and other necessities.
