The cost of damage from fire incidents in Davao City in January 2026 alone has gone up, according to the Davao City Fire District.
Based on data, up to 75 fire incidents were recorded in January 2026 and the accumulated amount of damage reached P108 million.
This is significantly higher than the P12 million from 65 fire incidents recorded in January 2025.
The fire district attributed the sharp increase in the cost of damage to several large buildings and establishments affected by fire incidents in January 2026.
“We have an increase of 20% ng fire incidents for the month of January alone. Pansin niyo naman po ang recent fire incidents natin malalaking establishment yong mga involved,” Davao City Fire District Spokesperson, Fire Senior Inspector Frances Sendrijas, said.
Because of this, authorities urged the public to conduct fire safety inspections regularly to prevent fire.
Meanwhile, firefighters continue to face challenges in responding to emergencies, particularly narrow roads obstructed by parked vehicles and other road blockages that delay fire response.
“Isa sa nagiging challenges namin is the budget talaga how to invite the community na mag join sa lecture namin but rest assured na kami sa BFP we are always doing our best to really tap the barangays,” Sendrijas added.
