A major portion of a road in Barangay Ned, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato remains impassable to motorists after it collapsed following heavy rains and a series of earthquakes.
The road affected, estimated to stretch about 150 to 200 meters, collapsed on Friday, February 13, 2026.
No one was reported hurt in the incident.
However, at least six families received assistance from the provincial government and are expected to be relocated after their homes were deemed at risk of damage due to tension cracks caused by the road collapse.
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the Department of Public Works and Highways-SOCCSKSARGEN (DPWH-12) declared the area impassable following an inspection.
One of the solutions being considered by the local government is the construction of an alternative road or the implementation of a rerouting scheme. However, this may take time since the proposed route will pass through a private property.
For now, an alternate route has been proposed.
Ned, Lake Sebu, pero dadaan tayo sa may area ng Sultan Kudarat in particular diyan sa may Bagumbayan at saka sa Isulan, may another way naman tayo, kaya lang medyo malayo, diyan tayo dadaan sa may municipality of Maitum paakyat sa may Brgy. Ned Proper natin,” Aquino added.
PDRRMO said the collapse may have been caused by continuous rains, coal mining operation, and recent earthquakes.
GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for a statement, as of this writing.
