The Department of Trade and Industry-Northern Mindanao (DTI) has reminded business owners in Iligan City of the ongoing enforcement of a price freeze on basic commodities following the devastation caused by Tropical cyclone Basyang.
It has been nearly three weeks since Basyang struck the city, and several areas have yet to recover from the massive flooding.
Several establishments were damaged, and residents continue to struggle with rebuilding what was lost.
The price freeze on essential goods was enforced after the city declared a state of calamity.
“We already conducted orientation on the price freeze to major trading enterprises in Iligan, about 13 of them informing them that it is mandatory to all trading center,” DTI-Lanao del Norte Consumer Protection Chief, John Fernan, said.
DTI-10 said the price freeze order will remain in effect for up to 60 days or until lifted by the local government.
The agency will monitor prices at major trading centers and grocery stores across the city closely.
The order requires that prices of basic commodities be aligned with prevailing January 2026 prices. However, the price freeze does not include rice.
“Ang bugas is under Department of Agriculture, wala kaming jurisdiction doon. Kung dili sila mag-follow ato nga price freeze we will issue a show cause order and then if their explanation would not merit we will issue a notice of violation,” Fernan added.
