At least 17 persons were injured when a truck loaded with fish collided with a passenger van in Barangay Habana, Nabas, Aklan.

The driver was seen in a video on February 17, 2026 pinned between his seat and the steering wheel.

Residents tried initially to move the driver from his seat to ease up the pain.

The truck carried at least 80 vats of fish from Tibiao, Antique en route to Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.

The truck driver was identified only as alias “Jeff,” 43 years old, a resident of Tibiao.

Based on police investigation, the engine conked out upon reaching the said spot and traversed the lane occupied by the van-for-hire moving from the opposite direction.

“Pag-apak niya ng preno, hindi kumagat. Na-loose brake raw siya at ayon sa kanya, nag-lock ang manibela so hindi na niya makabig pabalik sa kanyang linya,” Staff Sergeant Jeffry dela Cruz, investigator of Nabas Municipal Police Station, said.

A total of 17 persons were injured in the collision; 15 of which were on board the van, including alias “Julie,” the 49-year-old van driver from Kalibo, Aklan. The other two were the truck driver and “pahinante” (truck boy or assistant).

As of posting time, most of the patients have already been dispensed from the hospital.

“Conscious naman silang lahat. Kaya lang may mga galos, may mga injury sa different parts ng kanilang katawan,” dela Cruz added.

Only 17 of the 80 vats of fish were recovered. These were taken back to Tibiao.

The operator of the van-for-hire helped in the medical expenses of injured passengers.

Nabas Police are awaiting action from the truck owner.

The victims of the said road mishap have not discussed the incident yet, as the drivers are still at the hospital and are both under police custody.
