A 60-year-old woman died while another woman was injured after a van hit them as they crossed a national highway in Barangay San Miguel, Calasiao, Pangasinan evening on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, police said.

Video taken at the scene showed several people sprawled on the road as police officers and residents responded to the incident at past 9 p.m.

Police investigation found that the two women were crossing the highway when a van bound for Umingan, Pangasinan struck them.

“Sa lakas ng impact, tumilapon sa kabila ’yung isa at nabangga ng kabilang opposite na truck,” PLtCol. Quintin Casabar Jr., chief of the Calasiao Police Station, said.

The 60-year-old victim died in the crash. The other victim, a 28-year-old woman, sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Both victims are residents of Barangay Nilombot in Mapandan, Pangasinan, police said.

The van driver, identified as Julio Cruz, said he did not see the victims crossing the road.

“Hindi ko napansin na may tumatawid… ayun, noong napansin ko na, alanganin na. Hindi ko na naiwasan,” he said.

Authorities said the driver will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injury.

The family of the fatality declined to give a statement.
