The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) has terminated the search and rescue (SAR) and retrieval operations for the passengers of motorbanca Amejara, which went missing in the Davao Gulf on January 19, 2026.

CGDSEM said that after a month-long SAR and retrieval operation, only one survivor was rescued.

The agency added that despite extended search coverage and continuous inter-agency coordination, no additional survivors or passengers were located.

In a press conference on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, CGDSEM announced that active operations have been concluded following a comprehensive assessment and the completion of all planned and extended search efforts.

“Whereas the CGDSEM expresses its sincere appreciation to all participating agencies, personnel, volunteers, and stakeholders whose dedication, professionalism, and cooperation were instrumental throughout the conduct of this mission,” CGDSEM said.

“To the families and loved ones of those who remain missing, CGDSEM conveys its deepest sympathies and unwavering solidarity. We acknowledge the profound pain and uncertainty brought by this tragedy. Every available resource and measure was undertaken with diligence, compassion, and respect for your loved ones,” CGDSEM added.

However, CGDSEM assured the public that despite the termination of active search operations, it will continue to receive, evaluate, and act on any verified information, credible reports, or recovered materials related to the missing boat.

The boat was carrying 16 people: one survivor, six bodies recovered, and nine others still missing.

Investigators are still looking into why Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental was the vessel’s destination and its last known position, even though the vessel was operating under a Davao-Samal route franchise.

Authorities reiterated their call to all vessel operators and the maritime community to prioritize safety at sea by adhering strictly to maritime laws, safety regulations, and complying with voyage planning procedures.
